Father's Day

This is a picture of a mural at the new stadium.  This captures Ryan Zimmerman's game winning home run on Father's Day 2006, against the Yankees in RFK.  I was with him, at his house 'just chillin.'  The game seemed dire, and then all of a sudden Zimmerman came up to bat.  Since this day in 2006, Zimm has done this several more times for the Nationals......and my dad got sick, and is gone.  The gamer.

Him Beams

So this is the second time since he left that I have come upon beautiful sun beams streaming through the clouds.  Its just so pretty, and it comes from above, so both times it just struck me as a glimpse into what is above us, him included.

P.O. Box

A post office is pretty random but he had a P.O. Box at this branch for his business.  I used to stop with him to pick up mail every once in awhile.  I just happened to pass by this today, randomly, and it was like a punch in the gut.  Knowing him, he probably yacked it up with the staff inside when he'd go in there.

Simple pleasure

He really liked A&W for their root beer floats.  In fact, he would recall drinking them from way back in the day.  The man was so easy to please.

Mommyment

He loved good views.  Not out of pretension, but out of interest.  I can picture him now, looking out my office window, with his face scrunched up, and his hand above his eyes to shield them, looking to find each unique or historical landmark.  This is not the best view in the city, but he would appreciate it, especially the Washington Monument.

Rosa

He marveled at the architecture and accomplishment of the Capitol.  Each time I pass or see this beautiful building I think of him, me and my friend waiting in line for 7 hours to see Rosa Parks lay in state.  To say it was a long wait, and a physical toll would be an understatement. He rocked it and waited the seven hours, until well into the chilly night, even when it seemed there was no end in sight for the line ahead.  That will always be a proud memory.....I was so concerned about him holding up....and he almost outlasted me.

Best. Dinner. Ever.

He is the only person who ever took me for dinner to Gifford's Ice Cream for a sundae.  This man, above, was so nice and agreeable to let me take his picture, while in my memory.

Night Baseball

He taught me everything I know about baseball.  Every time I am in this stadium, I will think of him and wish he was near.  This is the view from our new seats, in the new stadium.  I gotta give it up for the beautiful sunset.  It's not even important to me that we lost, big time.

On the Hill

He used to work 'on the hill' and I loved going with him. Above is the entrance to his work.  Beer nuts; Pac-Man; Shirley Temples; cooking in the kitchen. Here is his block.....I loved the excitement of a city street. For the life of me, I can't remember where we would park.  Those were good days.

RFK

Every memory I have from this stadium is due to or related to him.  I had good times with him there, in person or on the telephone.  Last time we went, he had wings, and our baseball team won.  The first time we went together, 14 years prior, our football team won too.  We had good times in this stadium.
